A Different Kind of Innovation

The automotive world is as innovative and forward looking as anything to be found in that of Space Exploration or commuting...and this year sees a wealth of cutting edge designs, concepts and feats of engineering being developed.

BMW i Inside Future

BMW i Inside Future and the Toyota Concept -i

BMW unveiled a vision of the future with these design possibilities. A high tech re-imagining of what the demands of the driver in years to come will facilitate has resulted in a non driver-centric cockpit rendered in wood and composite where every passenger has access to controls via their HoloActive Touch system. It also pursues the idea of a relaxing personal space where music and Internet access not to mention comfort and calm are the goals.

Toyota are also in the business of leading the way in new design with their Concept-I, looking like something out of the movie Tron and exploring the concepts of autonomous driving alongside current manual approaches as well with a middle ground that allows the parameters of both to change with the drivers wishes.

Faraday Future FF91

 Faraday Future FF91

Back in the here and now the FF91 is planned to hit production lines in 2018 and has the Tesla ideology firmly in its sights. Not only big, it is also clever, a large luxury car but also one of the fastest on the market. Electric motors are able to deliver a 0 to 60 time of 2.39 seconds and a 378-mile range, delivering the potential that electric car technology always hinted at.

Mercedes Benz Fit and Healthy
Mercedes Benz Fit and Healthy…

Aimed at those whose car is their office, why not make it a fitness machine as well? Seats that massage, a steering wheel that senses your well-being and stress levels takes driver safety into a whole new dimension.

….and economic and environmentally friendly

Mercedes Benz have also recently unveiled Electric Intelligence, a technological concept which pushes electronic engineering to its fullest not only under the bonnet but by pursuing autonomous driving to it’s logical conclusions.

Taking one element of the concept of autonomous driving a stage further, Bosch, not known as an automaker are working with facial recognition to allow everything from pre-set interior features to be saved and recalled but eye tracking, touch free controls and cloud based connectivity to the world around them turn driving into a sensory based rather than a physical experience.

So as we head into an era of high concept design, autonomous driving, intelligent interfaces and environmentally more compatible creations, the future of the automotive industry and the driving experience look set for nothing short of a revolution.
